Flickr WordPress Plugin Slickr Flickr version 1.17 was released at last!
It contains a number of bug fixes, and a new Slickr Flickr Pro edition that offers priority support for those that want personal help with using the plugin. The free version has an extensive FAQ, common issues list and free video tutorials so most users will be able to use this to solve any problems.
Bug Fixes
Flickr Descriptions are Working Again!
There was a change in WordPress’s feed handler class, SimplePie, back in July, that meant descriptions were no longer being being provided as the description of the first enclosure.
This has not been fixed so I changed my code to fetch the photo descriptions form the content block instead.
This means that descriptions=”on” and sort=”description” both work again
Multiple Tags Are Working Again
In the last release I put in any error regarding the default behavior of the “tagmode” parameter.
In this release I had reverted the default value to be “any” and not “all” which means photos will be returned if either of the tags match rather than all of supplied tags.
New Features
Improved Sizing of the Slideshow
I have added a “descriptions” class which increases the height of the slideshow if descriptions=”on”
I have also reduced the amount of white space that used to appear below the slideshow when there are no descriptions in the slideshow caption.
Fetching More Than 50 Photos (Pro version only)
With the Pro edition Slickr Flickr makes multiple fetches of 50 photos in the background to build galleries and slideshows of whatever size you require
Automatic Clearing of the RSS Cache(Pro version only)
With the Pro edition you can specify cache=off to force Slickr Flickr to clear WordPress RSS cache every time it runs. This gets you your photos as soon as they are available publicly on Flickr. This is useful if you are uploading photos about a live event and want your article / blog post to be as up to the minute as possible
Setting the Precise Size of the Slideshow(Pro version only)
With the Pro edition you specify the height and width of the slideshow in pixels. Any photos larger than this are cropped. This is useful where you have a slideshow of photos where some are landscape and some are portrait.
Slickr Flickr Pro
As well the bonus features, Slickr Flickr Pro version gives you access to a membership site containing a support forum and also has step by step tutorials to help you make the most of Slickr Flickr as well as a support forum
